I think that it might be a good thing for The Doxhoonts to get out of the Doxie Playdate business! Here’s why ….

This morning Miss Kelsey, Mr. Bill and their fur kids Kira, Lucy & Herman the German came for a playdate with The Doxhoonts and Mr. Belvedere. We all had a great time UNTIL …. it was almost time to go home. Somehow some rambunctious play between Freddie and Herman made Annabel a bit nervous. She jumped in to break them up and that set Herman and Annabel on each other. Unfortunately Annabel got toothy and showed Herman what for. He ended up with a nasty looking wound on his handsome flank. I gave them directions to the nearest emergency vet and he ended up needing 3 staples on one part of the bite. The other part was cleaned up and left to heal on its own.

I am still feeling sooo guilty that I couldn’t do anything to stop it and was paralyzed when it did happen as I was sitting on my fat butt on the ground more concerned with taking pictures than closely watching my dogs.

If that wasn’t enough, we ended up with a bonus afternoon doxie playdate when Jen called to say that she had confused the time of today’s playdate thinking it was in the afternoon not the morning. The DeNave-Dabnor trio still had the afternoon free and so they headed for The Bronx for some frolics. We had 6 doxies in total including Dylan, Freddie, Annabel, Brownie, Mr. Belvedere (who stayed the day here with us) and our pal Beemer. It was awesome EXCEPT for the fact that Brownie felt the need to show Dylan who’s the boss (like he did to Herman in the morning) and Beemer took a fancy to Mr. Belvedere. On top of it all, Dylan was smitten by Uncle Bob’s shepherd mix Lily to the point where the normally placid Lily got grouchy.

The good news is that there was no blood-shed in the afternoon which was a huge relief. I can only guess that maybe there was a rogue sun-spot or a full moon to cause all the chaos!

Needless to say, it will be a bit before we schedule another playdate - although 90% of the time we all spent together was fun and games! Help us in sending positive healing vibes Herman’s way. He was a brave little boy in his mommy’s comforting safe arms after the attack.
